Bookkeeping Basics for Early Stage Social Ventures
Wed, 15 August 2018
6:00 PM – 8:30 PM PDT
421-268 Keefer Street [MAP]
When you think of starting your own social venture, what do you imagine yourself doing? Creating community? Helping others? Expressing your creativity? Making tons of moolah? Heck yeah! What you probably don’t imagine yourself doing is your bookkeeping. Accounting is for boring people, right? (Sad trombone sound) Well, not necessarily!
We love to see our Groundswell community members thrive, and we know that no enterprise, social or otherwise, can last long without a clear picture of where the money comes from, and where it goes.
Unfortunately, many of us have absorbed certain stories about money management… namely, that it’s hard! Enter Jessica Somers of Cordova Street Consulting, a chartered professional accountant with (dare we say it) a Groundswell twist! She is committed to changing the landscape of tax advising from a black box to an open conversation. Jessica approaches clients from a perspective of knowledge sharing, outreach, and taking the stress and mystery out of tax!
In the workshop, Jessica will be offering specialized know-how on three bookkeeping methods:
- The Bare Bones (Excel)
- The Cheap and Cheerful (Wave an unsophisticated, free, online bookkeeping program)
- The Ideal (Quickbooks, paid subscription, easier to use and more robust)
And, on Wednesday, August 22 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, we will be hosting a follow-up workshop with Jessica to take you to the next level of clarity and comfort with your books.
