Designer and Groundswell alumni Tania Alexis Clarke of JUNCO design has been going full force into the 2018 Vancouver market season, with six markets lined up so far including Make It Vancouver, Fall For Local and Portobello West.
JUNCO designs Canadian-made, eco-mindful small batch fashion for active individuals in the form of leggings, dresses, shawls, bags and more. All items feature original textile artwork by Tania, which she creates digitally with her photographs taken around BC and the world. Textures in nature are her inspiration, with designs featuring parts of Icelandic landscapes, BC mountain ranges and forests, or Hawaiian surf, to name a few.
So far, all items have been made at a Montreal production house that specializes in small batch sublimation printing for fashion, which has been a great way to get started. Last month, Tania found a local production house that can fulfill her need for small batches and eco-friendly fabric and is excited to release a new series of Vancouver-made items this summer. In addition to market excitement, JUNCO had a first photo shoot! It was so much fun, and JUNCO's Instagram feed has become noticeably busier since being able to share images of her items on real live humans.
What still seemed like a far away dream at this time last year during Groundswell's Social Venture program is now becoming a reality. Come and say hi at one of these markets this spring! Mention you're a friend of Groundswell, and Tania will be happy to provide a 10% discount if you see something you love.
