About our Speaker
Wes has worked in sustainable community economic development, communications, and community engagement since 2009, and up until September of 2015 he was the Executive Director of the Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association, Canada's first Social Innovation BIA.
He was the Green Party of Canada's Candidate for the riding of Vancouver East in the 2015 Federal Election. He still serves as Party Critic for Urban Affairs and Housing.
As the Community Economic Development Planner for the City of Vancouver, Wes is responsible for overseeing finalization and implementation of the community economic development strategy component of the DTES Local Area Plan. This means the community (you!) - are key players in his work.
Key areas of focus include: community retail needs, industrial lands and culturally appropriate job spaces, capacity building in micro-enterprise and social enterprise sector(s), social impact procurement facilitation and policy recommendations regarding local economic barriers and opportunities.
